<3 Ruth so hard.
I’ve never ranted on here before, but it seems like the best place to put my thoughts about music across, so here goes.
What the fuck is up with pop music these days?! It seems like the only music that can get heard on a large scale is the wonderful sound of auto-tune. I just listened to a one direction song, and am genuinely scared by how many people have watched the same video, and even more scared by the fact that people are so possessive of these ‘bands’. One of my biggest fears (which is worryingly close to actually happening) is that music will soon be about who can be the sexiest dancer, or who has the eyes that could charm medusa. People like Simon Cowell, and singers like Cheryl Cole etc. are creating an entire generation of idiots who follow musical careers simply for the looks and dance moves in a performance. Where the fuck has all the musical talent gone?! When you listen to the Beatles you can hear the talent in the vocals, lyrics that have had a lot of thought put into them that actually mean something, and even though people say Ringo Starr was a shit drummer, the beautiful thing is that at least people knew and still know who drummed in that band, rather than have a band of people who can’t play a single fucking instrument. Nobody ever credits the real fucking musicians anymore.
I know people are gonna say that there are still a lot of people who listen to genuinely good music, and that’s true, but the fact is that in a room with about ten random people in it, chances are that about seven of them will not know who Jeff Buckley is, or who Tricky is, and there are even a lot of people who have never even heard the name Jimi Hendrix.
In summary, the way music is going, there is going to be an incredibly large number of people who claim they listen to music, but don’t give the tiniest shit about the sound they put into their ears.
